Life & work
Guitar studies and The Allophones
Salimi studied guitar with Alfonso Borghese at Florence’s Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini and the Fiesole Music School. He holds a BA in classical guitar performance and an MA in music and technologies from the conservatory.27
After his debut solo album, The Curtain, he founded The Allophones in Florence. The band won the T-Rumors contest in 2011. Its first EP, Stalemate, followed in 2013 with Antonio Aiazzi’s involvement; Muscle Memory appeared in 2017, co-produced by Tiziano Borghi and Eduardo de la Paz.2
Returning to Persian songwriting
After nine years with the band, Salimi returned to solo recording with the self-produced Won Now in 2019, his first album to include Persian songs.2 In a 2019 interview, he described a way of writing across languages: composing in English and then translating into Persian helped him find words that fitted his music. He also described recording and producing his material in a home studio, with the exception of the drum parts.8
Production and collaborations
In 2020 he established Justaudio Studio in Brussels.2 His collaborations with Sanam Maroufkhani include Nahan, on which he rearranges a song credited to Ahmad Wali and contributes vocals, guitar, bass and synthesizer. Maroufkhani sings and plays piano.9 He also plays electric guitar and handles mixing and mastering on her When You Left Home.1011
The Psychology of Letting Go, his third solo album, was released in 2023. Salimi describes it as a challenge to idealized images of love. He recorded, produced and mixed the album; its credits place that work at Justaudio in Brussels and Brooklyn.212 Sara Naeini sings on “Tab,” and Zoe Guigueno sings lead on “Livin’ It Up.” His former Allophones bandmates also contribute.122
Salimi and The Allophones share writing and performance billing on Kian, released on 15 January 2026 and recorded at London’s Maida Vale Studios.5
Music technology
His studies also extend to music technology: Georgia Tech lists his MS in the subject in 2026. At its Computational and Cognitive Musicology Lab, his research examines how lyrics affect the perception of music.7
